Mountain Biking Meet Report

23/08/2016 by Andy Hudson Leave a Comment

With an uncertain forecast the four of us (John, Martin, Shirley and myself) decided on tackling part of The Pennine Bridleway starting from Kelbrook with a view that there were plenty of bailout places if the weather turned.

Soon after the start we were faced with a rather steep incline and at this stage I must of misheard John as I swear he said it soon eased, it did…….eventually and once our legs and lungs had stopped pounding and wobbling we continued along the PBW and headed down into Wycoller and the café, after deciding pie and peas was perhaps not the best idea prior to a long ascent we opted for coffee/tea and cake.

Fully refreshed and with energy abound!! We continued on and steadily upwards following the undulating and at times slightly technical bridleway underneath Boulsworth Hill with a second stop at our highest point of the day before joining the road and a few more ups and down as progression was made towards Colne and on to the canal towpath which we followed to Foulridge and on to Salterforth before another section of bridleway and back to Kelbrook. An excellent ride with very little rain and many thanks to John for the route planning.

24 miles and 2,112ft of ascent.

Mountain biking terms and definitions
“It soon eases”: It will ease eventually but not before your lungs are pounding and your legs are wobbling beyond the point of been able to control a bike.

“technical”: Chances of involuntarily parting company with bike are higher than normal.

“Progression”: When you think you are heading back but seem to be heading further away from the finish.

Pot Scar – Meet Report

10/08/2016 by Vikki 1 Comment

POT SCAR10 of us plus Bella made the trip up to Pot Scar last night.

We climbed mostly under a blue sky until the end of the night when a shower soaked us all whilst on our last routes!

A beer in the Talbot made up for it though 🙂

Brilliant night as always!

See you next week

Great Close Report

27/07/2016 by Andy Barton 2 Comments

Despite ominous clouds and the occasional light drizzle, Keith and I knocked off two classic HSs ‘Crossover’ and ‘Kestrel Crack’ before heading down to The Listers for for a great pint of Main Line. Unfortunately there was no one else available to take a photo of the daring duo.

Great Whernside Walk meet report

25/07/2016 by Andy Hudson Leave a Comment

Five of us plus Freddie and Stitch had a very pleasant days walking of about 9 miles over Great Whernside and down to Tor Dike and Cam Head. After enjoying the culinary delights of Syvia’s cake we descended to Starbotton before returning along the river to Kettlewell where more cake was consumed. The weather was mainly kind to us with only the odd light shower. All in all t’was a grand day out.

Widdop Meet Report

20/07/2016 by Vikki 3 Comments

9 of us plus 2 members of the LCC who we made friends with enjoyed a very warm night at Widdop 🙂

We all did the classic “Ordinary Route” with it’s one off stomach traverse, don’t think we’ll encounter a traverse like that anywhere else! 🙂

A nice breeze kept the midges off until the sun started to set and we headed off the the pub for a well needed cold beer!

Happy Days 🙂
