Witches Quarry – Meet Report

09/04/2015 by CMCAdmin 1 Comment

7 of us enjoyed the sunshine at Witches Quarry last night.

Some discussion was had about how the Severe grades feel a lot easier than the Diff grades but generally – a good night was had by all and there were no falling rocks or trips to A&E this time – Bonus! (Although there was a half eaten turnip came tumbling down the rock face at one point…… not even joking!)

After the sun had set we enjoyed a drink at the Assheton Arms in Downham.

A good start to the Tuesday meet program! 😀

Lovely evening at Witch’s last night. I climbed with my daughter Roise. Not having climbed in the red rose county before we started on a nice looking V diff and twenty minutes later had managed to fiddle in 4 tiny nuts. They all came flying out as I moved up the rope into a slimy groove. Another twenty minutes passed contempling the crux move but it was not so bad in the end and I managed to get another solid nut in above all difficulties. This amused Rosie as she noticed that I never bothered to even attach a quickdraw to the nut. Fortunately we had a long rope as the belay was back across the border. After this some what tricky initial encounter we decided to move up the grade spectrum a little following advice from Dick on the local Lancashire customs. Two really excellent climbs followed with bomber gear and great holds. Coven Crack and Cracklap – HS most enjoyable.

Fish pie in local pricey but recommended. Enjoyable pint and discussion on how best to avoid turnip injuries. I intend to go back.

Great to get out with the club again following a fustrating year off with an injury.
