Patterdale Weekend with Burns Supper

30/01/2026 by James Crawshaw Leave a Comment

All attending had an excellent trip despite a less than encouraging weather forecast. Saturday was a damp, windy day but all the party had a proper day out to the summit of Place Fell and back via the lake shore. Despite the speculation before hand and some snow on the top, no spikes of any type were required.

Saturday evening was the Burns Supper and all the standard things were consumed. Haggis, special marmalade and whiskey bread and butter pudding and a few drops of Laphroaig. Poetry was kept short, and jokes were plentiful.

We split up on Sunday with one group exploring first Grisedale and then Glenridding/Greenside. The other three went up through the hole in the wall to Red Tarn, then up through the mist with all sorts of spikes, up the snow slope on the right side of the snow bowl to emerge close to the summit of Helvelyn. After traversing the summit we descended Striding Edge where conditions were so variable that it was never clear if spikes were a help or not.

Both groups arrived back at the hut in time for  a cuppa before the quick clean up and away home.

A special thanks to Cleveland M.C. for the use of their lovely warm hut and to Michael for booking things up. Sadly Michael had to drop out at the last minute. Happily I had his haggis on Sunday evening.

Rylstone – Meet report

25/06/2015 by CMCAdmin Leave a Comment

Ryl2Three of us plus one guest wandered up to Rylstone on a warm evening under blue skies, a perfect evening to be up on a moorland Gritstone outcrop.

Starting out on the “must do” Presidents Slab, we moved onto “Bad Boys”, following this Steve decided to do Twin cracks (ignoring the luminous green and bird poo!), following this up with Falcon Crack, Monkey Corner and a top rope inspection of Angry Woman.  Andy and myself decided on Senators Saunter (pictured), Misty Moo and Dead Kennedy’s.

Pot Scar

12/06/2015 by CMCAdmin Leave a Comment

Eventually the ever present rain of the past few weeks parted and we finally managed to get a Tuesday evening trip in.

8 of us headed upto Pot Scar to try to tick some of the classics and look at some of the more “esoteric” routes!

In the warm evening sun Equity, Nirvana, Cannabis and payback were all climbed, along with some lesser traveled routes such as Fingers Climb and Car Stop.  There were even rumors Sunspot recieved an ascent…must just be a rumor though…..ATT_1434112649856_DSC_0209

As the sun set we headed off to the Mason’s at Gargrave for a post climb pint 🙂

Witches Quarry – Meet Report

09/04/2015 by CMCAdmin Leave a Comment

7 of us enjoyed the sunshine at Witches Quarry last night.

Some discussion was had about how the Severe grades feel a lot easier than the Diff grades but generally – a good night was had by all and there were no falling rocks or trips to A&E this time – Bonus! (Although there was a half eaten turnip came tumbling down the rock face at one point…… not even joking!)

After the sun had set we enjoyed a drink at the Assheton Arms in Downham.

A good start to the Tuesday meet program! 😀
