High Stoney Bank

17/06/2015 by CMCAdmin Leave a Comment

Five of us headed over to the beautiful valley containing the Stoney Banks.  Erica, Chris and Tony led the early charge with Roger and myself following up later.High S

Quite a fresh wind was blowing down the valley meaning we were all quite keen to keep moving, fortunately this is easy to do at High Stoney with it’s mixture of sport and trad, and particularly at the left hand end short bolted routes at accessible grades.

Some routes completed were Mutton Jeff, What Remains, Pinnacle Flake, King Flush and Candy’s Case.

With arms feeling heavier than they did on the walk in we retired to the Listers in Malham

Pot Scar

12/06/2015 by CMCAdmin 1 Comment

Eventually the ever present rain of the past few weeks parted and we finally managed to get a Tuesday evening trip in.

8 of us headed upto Pot Scar to try to tick some of the classics and look at some of the more “esoteric” routes!

In the warm evening sun Equity, Nirvana, Cannabis and payback were all climbed, along with some lesser traveled routes such as Fingers Climb and Car Stop.  There were even rumors Sunspot recieved an ascent…must just be a rumor though…..ATT_1434112649856_DSC_0209

As the sun set we headed off to the Mason’s at Gargrave for a post climb pint 🙂

By Heck It Were Windy!

12/05/2015 by CMCAdmin 1 Comment

So five of us hardy souls plus two guests headed to Almscliffe.  The forecast was for dry weather but 45mph winds due to drop at 7pm.  The dry forecast element was correct, the wind dropping element was not.  It blew a whoolie all evening!

Steve Wilson and two guests opened up the evening with an ascent of Fluted columns before heading to more shelter and the dubious delights of Cup and Saucer.  Dave Collier and Andy Barton decided decided to do battle with Parsons Chimney.  Dave Hunter and I decided to go for the classic Birds Nest Crack followed by Crack and Wall.

As the evening progressed some groups felt that a bit of top roping was in order, basically just to keep warm!  Dave and I headed down to Low Man where Dave lead the very enjoyable Square chimney and Whiskey Crack which we Followed up with our own ascent of Fluted Columns.

Steve and friends concluded the night with a route on Low Man before we all sought the sanctuary of the refined Square and Compass for a quick half and home.

Great Evening at Giggleswick

23/04/2015 by CMCAdmin Leave a Comment

There were seven of us at Gigg South on Tues. Excellent conditions and we spread out along the crag covering many of the various sectors. First time I have climbed here when the rock felt truly dry and seemed to make a difference. Most enjoyable.

Here is a picture of John Brayshaw on the first climb of the evening ‘Out of Bounds’ – reputedly ‘the easiest climb at Giggleswick’ but with a stiff start!

15/04/2015 by CMCAdmin 1 Comment

An enjoyable evening at a busy Ilkley Quarry last night. Quite warm on arrival but when the sun disappeared it cooled down to the more customary levels. Six of us were there including Andy Hudson, Andy Barton, Roger, Phil and Craig. Climbs included fairy steps (HVD), nailbite (VD), Flake crack (HS), Walewska (VS), S Crack (VS), Josephine superdirect (VS) and Chiseller(S).
