Seven of us met up for a weekend at the cosy Gritstone Smithy hut in Thirlmere. Taking advantage of a warm and sunny Friday, Martyn cycled in Borrowdale and Andy and I climbed on Scout Crag in Langdale on route.
For some of us, the usual indecisiveness prevailed first thing on Saturday ! The forecast was clear so before too long Fiona, Martyn, Sylvia and Bruce headed to Seathwaite for a walk up Scafell Pike via the Corridor route. After much discussion, a few breakfasts, preparation of the evening casserole and some quality faffing, John, Andy and I decided on an ascent of Corvus. Lots of others had the same idea but conditions were great and we’d plenty of time for snacks, chats, lovely views and photo opportunities on the route. To speed up the climb though and avoid a head torch descent, we changed tactics and Andy led from the 3rd pitch. Needless to say we were late for our scrumptious communal meal but Sylvia had it all in hand and saved us some casserole / dumplings and trifle. It was a fun evening.
On Sunday, Fiona, Martyn and Bruce went up Blencathra from Mungrisale and Wardy, Andy and I managed a couple of routes at Bramcrag Quarry before the drizzle came in. Thanks all for a lovely weekend!
