High Cup Nick. Eden Valley from Dufton Village. Cumbria. Joint Meet CMC & YMC.
A classic walk taking in one of Northern England's most impressive geological features.
High Cup is a classic U-shaped glaciated valley high on the western flanks of the North Pennines. A deep chasm on the Pennine fell side resembling a scar that could have been caused by a meteorite this famous place is a dramatic formation and part of the well-known Whin Sill.
Formed by the sturdiness of grey-blue dolerite the crags are spectacular. Starting from Dufton in the Eden Valley this 9.5 mile walk follows the northern edge of the valley to the Nic before dropping steeply down the miners trail giving you perspectives from both the top and bottom of this unique geological feature.
We plan to meet at the carpark in Dufton for 10am and leave shortly after. Please bring usual provisions for a days hiking.
