Cairngorm Lodge SYHA 24th / 25th February 2017

22/10/2016 by shirleye 5 Comments

An 8 bedded dormitory is booked in Cairngorm Lodge, Loch Morlich for the above weekend at a cost of £22 pp/pn. It’s a great location for winter climbs and walks and for those who’d like to extend the trip a hut can be booked from Sunday 26th for however many days are requested. In order to secure this booking, all eight places need to be taken. Please can you email or phone me by November 20th if you’d like to book or need more information. Thank you

The hostel is walking distance 7km from where the photo was taken but most people drive/ride up to 600m at the ski centre leaving only 2 or 3 km to walk into Coire an t-Sneachda. Climbing and Mountaineering at all Standards. The Ridge in the centre is the Faiciaill ridge which varies from Easy I to a good II depending on choice of line. Beyond it is Coire an Lochain and it looks like Savage Slit IV (6) and there are plenty more hard routes. To the left of the Fiaciall Ridge is the Fiacaill Couloir Area and off picture to the left are all the routes of the main Coire Sneachda area.

A walk along the plateau edge above these northern corries is a superb but fairly easy walk. Braeriach in the far distance on the picture offers a great but long outing.

The picture was taken during the clubs meet at Mill Cottage in March 2010. The hostel gives much easier access to the Ski Road and the northern corries than Mill cottage did.
