SOME EXITING IDEAS FOR SEPTEMBER

16/04/2019 by Dick 3 Comments

In our recent Newsletter I asked you all to think of some ideas for a meet in September as we have not yet booked a hut and I am not personally able to commit to a date in September. So far I have received two very different and interesting ideas. Firstly Ian suggested a CIC Hut trip to do some of the classic rock climbs on the Ben. (Probably a weekend or a bit more). Secondly Shirley mentioned a trip to a Hostel in Wooler which should give access to some fantastic hill country, mountain biking, costal walks and some outcrop climbing. (Probably a weekend but there should be no difficulty in adding a bit more.)

It is looking like we will have some choice of dates, so if you are keen, please give any relevant dates that you are available Please post here, email, ring or just talk to me if you are interested in either or both of these ideas. Other ideas for September or for any other time are most welcome. I would hope to be able to write up one or more of these as proposed trips for the committee to consider in early May. So ideas and expressions of interest to me by end of April please.

P.S. I am hoping that at the last minute commitments will let me come on one or both of the trips mentioned so far.”

Dick

    Hi Dick,

I would definitely be interested in a CIC Hut trip in September. I could do the weekends of 30 Aug-1 Sep, 20-22 Sep or 6-8 Sep at a push….

Toward the end of September would be best for me and possibly quieter when school hols are all well done. Hopefully the midges will also have had their fill by then too. I’ve a pass-out to add a few days either side of the CIC hut weekend so in addition to climbing gear will be adding a MtB and fishing rods. Room for tents in car but could also lodge at a cheap hotel (think Kinghouse is back open?) or Glencoe hobbit huts. Plenty of ideas to climb lower grade classic routes on the Buachaille, Glencoe and MtB from the Aonach Mor uplift. If anyone else wants to hook up before/after the CIC hut weekend do let me know.

I could definitely be interested in the idea – preferably towards the end of September when my daughter in law should have started her maternity leave. Subject to home situation, an extended weekend could be great.
