In Scotland, weather is always a gamble and so it proved, but great winter fun was had nevertheless. Twelve members travelled to the Cairngorms, with ten staying at Mill Cottage, Feshiebridge. It was great to be joined by some of our newer members. Snowfall had been heavy and it looked as though our timing proved to be about right in terms of the conditions; indeed everywhere except the northern Cairngorms where the avalanche risk was ‘substantial’ at first, but this improved as the week went on. Three teams claimed Cairngorm summit in horrendous white out conditions on day one. Climbs included, The Fiacaill Ridge, the ridge up Beinn a Chaorainn, and, when conditions turned poor, a Corbett made for an excellent day out, and the Inshriach Forest proved a great option for a less demanding day. Winter sport was the main objective but the evening socials around a real fire, exchanging stories, and making new friends is a key part of being part of a club, and so it proved in Scotland 2026.
