From the car park we will walk south through Hutton-le-Hole before taking a footpath at the southern end of the village through a small wooded area and then along a field boundary, towards Grange Farm. From there the walk goes through the village of Spaunton, and then after a short stretch of footpath down the hill, through Lastingham.
From Lastingham we take the footpath that runs across the south eastern edge of Spaunton Moor that leads to the valley of Rosedale.
After descending into the Rosedale valley, this footpath joins with another that runs along the south western edge of Rosedale, past Hollins Farm and eventually on to Rosedale Chimney Bank.
Rather than climb up the road at Rosedale Chimney Bank there is a footpath leading steeply upwards just on the other side of the road, which eventually joins the old railway track that runs around much of the top of the Rosedale valley.
From there we head south initially along the old railway track and then along the road until we take the footpath on the right-hand side of the road that leads initially south west across the moor, and then turns south, gradually descending along Hutton Ridge back to Hutton-le-Hole
Refreshments afterwards are available at The Crown in Hutton-le-Hole - www.crownhuttonlehole.com
