Crag features
The wild and secluded location of this crag is part of its charm. It stands proudly on the northwestern edge of Barden Moor overlooking the beautiful limestone scenery of the Yorkshire Dales.
The crag is often windy and can be cold even when the sun is shining. The best time to visit is on a hot day when the crag often offers a cooling breeze and shade. Some areas face north and can be lichenous and damp in winter (especially the bouldering).
Approach
The quickest and easiest approach is from the tiny hamlet of Thorpe, accessed off the B6160 Burnsall to Threshfield road. In Thorpe, several parking spaces can be found around the triangle, but care should be taken not to block any driveways.
Head south to the fell lane which starts to climb into a walled track after 300m, through one gate and a further 350m. Take a vague path west for 700m, then start to climb the hillside when the skyline boulders come into view. The main crag is reached a further 400m along the ridge after approx. 35 mins.
Member Notes
It's a 50 - 60 min walk in, so suggest to those going to see if they can get out early to make the most of it. Please speak up on the WhatsApp group if you intend to go so that others can join.
