We have planned short walk (about 8 miles) starting and finishing in Settle, ending up at the Talbot Arms for a meal around 4.00 PM. We will kick off at 11:45PM so take a snack and water and appropriate clothing. Dogs with well-behaved owners are permitted.
The Route:
Distance 13.1 km (8.14miles)
Max Altitude 442m
Total Ascent 528m
On the day time estimated at around 4 hours.
We will be meeting in Settle Market Square and head off at midday for the Ribble Way path, following the River Ribble all the way to Stainforth Force Waterfalls. At Dog Hill Brow we'll take the road over the river to the main road (B6479), heading south to Stainforth, passing the church and crossing south over Stainforth Beck.
From Stainforth we'll head up onto the sheepfolds and then Stainforth Scar, eventually ending up on top of the scar. Still heading south we'll reach Lower Winskill, this will now take us east and through the fields towards Upper Winskill. Heading south east we'll past Winskill Stones to the road which leads to Malham. Crossing the road and the cattle grid, we'll now be heading south west, reaching the sharp bend in the road where we will turn onto the Moorside (again heading south east).
Climbing up onto the higher ground we will head towards Jubilee Cave, but will turn before we get there and head for Victoria Cave and Brent Scar, which turns into Attermire Scar and runs along the contours. At Attermire cave we'll turn to head down, undulating to start with, but then dropping quickly into Settle just by Castlebergh Plantation.
Within a few hundred yards we'll be back in the square and ready for a hearty meal at the Talbot Arms
