Return to the rock again at long last, and a good turn out to secure a tick list of Living the Dream(5b*); Dr Frank(6a); Gone With the Wind(5*); Tombstone Blues(6a*); Subterranean Homesick Blues (6a+**) and Wheels on Fire (6a+***). Adjourned to The Game Cock.
Ash Tree Crag – Meet Report
It seems a long walk in from Clapham and the climbs just that bit tougher on such a warm and sunny evening. For some reason I had not ticked off Christmas Cracker (VS**) in the past, but after spending an inordinate amount of time testing the patience of my belayer, I now know why! The route remains unticked.
Lesser routes proved more successful although Ash Tree Crack (HS*) was scrappy and challenging at the grade. Plum Duff (MS) and Wobbling Wall (HVD**) – Pictured in the evening heat haze – were more in keeping as was West Wall Direct (S*) despite it’s challenging start.
Gig South – Meet Report 24-4-19
Gig South has a habit of throwing Googlies at you with Sector Swans topping the list as a warm up on Cygneture Tune (F5+)* proved to be a case in point; I would recommend a clip stick and a medium sized cam if you want to stay safe.
Meanwhile Sector Swallows Nest offers far more friendly bolting and grading. Kleine Scheidegg (5)*, The Ice Hose (6a)* and The Second Ice Field (6a+)* all provided comforting reassurance. A downpour finale had Vikki legless (re photo) before adjourning to The Talbot.
Witches Quarry – Meet Report
Another cold evening, nevertheless eight of us still put up a good haul with Crack Lap (HS*), Witches Brew (HS*), Thrutch (VS**), Peel Off (VS***) and Blond Witch (Assheton Arms ***)
Eastby Crag – Meet Report
Perhaps not the warmest start to the outdoor season, but tradition prevailed as seven of us knocked off a few classics which included Eastby Buttress (VD), Nose Climb (S) and Scoop & Crack (S*). John B is seen here finishing Last Orders (VS), now that reminds me!
