The original meet was planned for Twistleton however, with a low attendance of four made lower by Andy Hudson’s onset of man flu, Phil Mercer, Tony Womersley and Dave Wynne decided to head for Crummackdale.
On arrival hearts sank as the wall was seeping in many places and the ground underfoot was extremely wet.
After some initial musings Tony plumped to lead “Definite Trods Revived” at HVS 5a or VS 4c depending on guide, delicately avoiding the running water at certain sections.
Dave then lead “The Shambles” VS4c and after a jibber on the approach to the wet flake with wet shoes completed without incident.
Phil then took on “Grey Corner” at S 4a. and at this point the sun came out and the wall and ground quickly began to dry.
Tony then lead “New Clear Physics” at HVS 4c with a difficult crux at 5 meters and no gear. A real gulp moment, but the usual cool approach paid off.
Dave then finished on “Guilty Conscience” at VS 4c.
This is a great crag, probably my favourite Yorkshire Limestone venue.
A great day!
