The circuit of Lantern Pike and Cown Edge starts from a roadside parking area opposite Plainsteads Farm on Monks Road, Glossop. The post code for the farm is SK13 6JZ. This is accessed from the A624 between Glossop and Hayfield. If travelling south from Glossop turn right on to Monks Road after passing the former Grouse public house (now being converted into a dwelling).
Further information on the meet can be obtained from the meet coordinators Kath & Graham Willis - firstname.lastname@example.org or 07731-22766.
The walking route will be a clockwise route of about 13.1k (8.1 miles) taking in about 452m (1,483ft) of ascent but may change on the day should weather conditions dictate.
The proposed route is to generally follow the Pennine Bridle Way heading south onto Matley Moor and aiming directly for the northern end of Lantern Pike. We'll then head off south and west to pick up old pack horse trails to the village of Rowarth from where we'll ascend to Cown Edge Rocks, Coombes Tor and Coombes Rocks before descending to Whitley Nab and the return south on the moor between Monks Road and the A624
Refreshments afterwards at the Lantern Pike pub on the A624 at Little Hayfield.
