Joint YMC & CMC Meet
Walking Meet - Hebden Bridge. South Pennines

Midgehole Car Park, Hardcastle Crags, Walshaw & Lower Gorple Reservoir

Date:         Sunday 12th January 2025 at 10.00am.
Location: Meet in National Trust car park at Midgehole. SD 988 291. (Near Gibson Mill).
Sat Nav:   Google search gives post code of HX7 7AA.
Route:       About 16k (9.5 miles) & 382m (1,253ft) of ascent.

Note: Please take appropriate footwear and waterproofs for the weather forecast along with a packed lunch. Public toilets are available at the start point and shops and toilets are available close by in Hebden Bridge. We also pass Gibson Mill café & a public house on the route.

The proposed route from the car park at Midgehole is to follow the Hebden Water riverside path upstream passing Gibson Mill & Hardcastle Crags to Walshaw hamlet and on to Holme Ends. Having passed the remote Pack Horse inn we'll either cross Graining Water below the reservoir of we'll join the Pennine Bridleway and cross the dam wall of Gorple Lower Reservoir, passing Gorple Cottages to Widdop Gate. Dropping down into Black Dean we'll follow the various high and low level paths south of Hebden Water through Hebden Dale woodland again passing Hardcastle Crags and crossing the river at Gibson Mill to follow the access track back to the car park at Midgehole.

The walking route will be a circular route of about 16k (9.5 miles) taking in about 382m (1,253ft) of ascent.

Refreshments afterwards in 'The Old Gate' Pub in the town centre.
