Fountains Fell was the third midweek walk on the clubs programme this week. Parking up by Malham Tarn the day showed great promise as blue sky could be seen making its way in from the west. Following the Pennine Way several groups of Duke of Edinburgh participants were encountered, all in high spirits shouldering huge rucksacks their enthusiasm was uplifting and a great credit to them all. Gaining the summit after a yummy piece of fruit cake, (always a good thing to give the coordinator!!! Smashing) the clouds finally parted and we were rewarded not only with a good old view but murmurations of Starlings in great flocks swirling and diving an amazing sight to witness. Following the ridge down we had the place to ourselves and a new path recently discovered by yours truly saw us coming down right on cue to the boardwalk around the tarn. Having reconnoitred the walk earlier in the week I was keen to see if I could see anymore Roe Dear, Newts, Woodpeckers etc but the day was later than my earlier visit and despite our best efforts nothing could be spied. Non the less it was a varied walk with a variety of terrain and people met it certainly made for an enjoyable day thanks to all concerned.
