POSTPONED Crianlarich Hut Meet – 28Feb/1 March 2020 POSTPONED
28th February 2020 - 1st March 2020
We had 8 places booked in the Ochil’s Hut but with no volunteers to act as meet coordinator and far too few people indicating an ability to take part in this meet. So, due to an unusual combination of circumstances it has been necessary to postpone our visit to Crianlarich. This is such a shame as it is a super hut (after recent renovations) and a fine area for outdoor activities.
We are hoping to reschedule a visit to this hut for a later date within 2020. To maintain credibility with the Ochil’s Club we need to be sure of having a reasonable number of participants and a meet coordinator who is keen to go and encourage others to attend.
If you are keen to go to Crianlarich and have a some suggested dates when it seems likely that we can attract a big enough group please let me know as soon as you can.
It is not essential that any proposed dates are weekend days so long as we have confidence in attracting the right numbers.
CRIANLARICH POSTPONED
Hi all. As you can see we have had to postpone this because so many people were unable to attend on the planned dates. We have been offered the chance of booking again anytime they have vacancies in 2020.
If you would like to go to Crianlarich on a date when we might attract a good number of members please get in touch asap. and I will try to book it.
In addition to being an excellent hut with vast amounts of good mountain walking and winter mountaineering nearby it has more attraction to rock climbers than many would expect. Climbing at Glen Ogle (Sport), The Cobbler (Trad), North End Loch Lomond (Boulders) and even on the Buachaille are all within 30min by car. There are many different sports and trad climbing areas suitable for a visit on arrival or departure days on the northern edge of the lowlands.
The Glencoe Ski Centre is also within 30 min drive which has biking/skiing depending on season/conditions.
Bikers have lots of scope with both areas aimed at Off road cycling and many quiet tracks and roads that feel like cycling in the mountains. Some giving good access for mountain ascents.
One unusual feature of a hut meet at Crianlarich is that it is quite feasible to have a few days there with all travel by public transport.
Best wishes
Dick
