Ash Tree Crag
22nd May 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm
A limestone crag avoiding much of the vertical and overhanging limestone of Yorkshire. South facing and quick to dry, Ash Tree Crag is up to 50 feet tall. Around 25 routes from DIFF to VS, but most in the easier grades. Well worth a visit.
Approach from Clapham by the track to Austwick, through the tunnels. Take the left fork (Long Lane) and then through the third gate on the right and up the steep field. On the left there is a long line of scars parallel to the lane in the centre of a small outcrop with a disused lime kiln; on the right behind a large ash tree is Ash Tree Crag.
There is always the possibility of evening midges, so take some spray and include a head-torch for the return journey through the tunnel.
