Despite the inclement weather Castle Naze proved a very worthwhile and agreeable outing.
It all started with a masterful display of parking. A spot which according to the guidebook would only accept three motors was no issue to the club with five cars squeezed in in tight order.
After a short steep walk three seemingly well balanced teams were ready for an assault on Derbyshire’s Western fringes.
Unfortunately the balance did not extend to common sense. One of those teams, who I think should remain nameless, decided that sheltering from the wind was the priority. However they chose to ignore the green slime coating the walls of the subterranean recesses of the chosen route. To make matters worse the unmentionable pair then decided to start up this horrific slimy grove in a major downpour. Several hours later they returned in shame to ground level in time for luncheon. Fortunately the saner CMC members had managed to get some good routes in and soon the downpour relented.
The crag dried quite quickly in the strong wind and there was much to smile about at the end of the day. Some really good climbs and I think everyone was happy with the climbing at the end of an enjoyable day.
